Engine Change

I have just found your site and am looking for a little advice. I have a 1989 1600td T25. The engine is giving trouble and I need to change it. A friend has a 1993 Golf 1900 naturally aspirated engine which he says will do the job for me. Is it a complicated job to fit this engine or is it just a straight swap ? I would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you very much.

Try posting this in "Alternative engines" forum
...and it's good manners to introduce yourself..

Thanks,
Don't really know what you mean re introducing myself. This is my first time registering on a site like this. I did read the rules and also on the homepage of this site it said it welcomed people like me who were looking for advice for the first time. I didn't see anything about having to introduce myself. I gave my name at the end of my post. I thought that was all that was needed. If I have broken some rule then I apologise. Didn't realise the site was so school marmish.

Is the golf engine an AAZ diesel?
if it is then it's a relatively easy swap

Thanks for the advice. I see what you mean. I live in Connemara, west of Ireland and have been driving a 1988 reg T25 Leisuredrive for approx five years. Without a problem. While the interior is almost as good as the day it was made, there are a few rust spots here and there. Lately the engine has been acting up. Its a little tired I think. Anyway a local mechanic has a couple of Golf engines in his garage and thinks the 1900 might do. I thought that if I could get a few years out of another engine I'd get the camper sprayed. The mechanic was to check out a few details and in the meantime I thought I would do a little research. Thats how I found club8090. Personally I would be very mechanically challenged apart from changing oil and tyres and if pushed I suppose I could find the alternator. Hence my complete ignorance as to what AAZ means. Could you tell me what that means.
So my apologies for my earlier clumsy introduction and many thanks for your reply.
Regards
Peter

Hey Peter ..
I found this on another site like ours....

it seems very comprehensive and your mechanic should be able to interpret all the information
