Tronic Charger - Problem

Hi all

So I went about charging the leisure battery this morning only to find that the Tronic charger wouldn't skip to the correct mode..... it would only go to either standby or motorcycle (6v) mode, not to the 12v Car setting.

Has anyone else experienced this? The battery is what I'd consider very flat, not just a bit flat.

I had to rush out to work so didn't get a great deal of time to investigate but I'm wondering that if I left it on the 6v setting would it over time skip to the 12v? Once a basic charge had been delivered?

It's a 2 year old decent battery which I usually maintain very well using the tronic trickle charge only, no big blasts with the zig.

If this is an Aldi charger yes I had the same the battery was goosed to the extent that the charger though it was 6V! Probably no hope for it once it gets that low.

Hi there

Yes it is the Lidl / Aldi charger. To be honest I have charged it from flat before without any issues, I use an Elecsol Battery (http://www.alternativeenergystore.co.uk ... attery.htm) and it only ran down last week so it's not like it's been sat in a shed for long time doing nowt... hmm, I hope it's not the battery!

Thanks though for the reply.

Leisure batteries are only supposed to be discharged to 50% - they tend to be ruined by taking them below that level. Very flat sounds like 5% or so - you have most probably killed it!

eep! this all sounds ominous.... i thought that the tronic chargers were notorious for reviving flat batteries.... ?

What voltage did you have on the battery when it was "very flat"? If it was below 11v it has most probably gone to meet it's maker.
50% charge is 12.2v, 0% charge is 11.6v.

I had this with a LB last year.
I charged it on an old style charger, then put it on the aldi charger for 48 hours.
LB now seems ok, but I've not discharged it too much.

Thanks Tony... as luck would have it, last night I tried the charger again and it functioned as it usually would, charged through the night and will see what's what when I get home tonight.... still got my fingers crossed
