Hi new to forum and new owner of T25 '89 1.7 diesel.

wondering if anyone can help. Decided to clean up the front grills as of showing there age. Took them off, cleaned them up away from van was about to put back on and noticed the radiator fan was on. Put grills back on and even 3 hours later rad fan would not stop. only way i can stop fan is either by unhooking battery OR taking out the rad fan fuse in the fusebox.

Not sure if anyone knows what the problem is? Been in wiki and cant see a similar type of prob and fix in there!

Also any recommendations on decent garages around the stafford / midlands area where i can take my van to get things sorted now and in the future?

Any help would be much appreciated

cheers

Phil

welcome to the forum... great introduction...

Could be a faulty fan switch (on the radiator)
make sure you get the right one.. there are two types two pin and three pin

Available from Brickwerks

easy to change, if you're quick you won't lose much coolant

replaced mine a couple of weeks ago, behind the lower of the two grilles, right hand side, quick swap (with new fibre washer) you only loose half a cup of coolant...I topped mine up by removing the bleed screw (13mm nut, left top of rad) yes it's very small, but is possible using a short piece of washer hose and small funnel.

Don't go cheap on thermo switches, they are absolutely vital to cool the engine and a cheap make will likely go wrong and wreck your engine.

Mine was a WAHL 2 speed (think it's spelt like that) VW OEM brand, about £13.00...most were 2 speed.

Had it checked by a friend and dodgy wiring was at fault. Had new wire put in and now working as it should be.

S'ppose being the 9th owner of the beast, going to stumble on things like this.
