Hello all,

I have had a good read through as much of the alt tyres and wheels posts as my tiny mind can handle and I still cant grasp it properly.

I am planning on running the normal 14" VW wheels and tyres up front and a pair of Merc steels at the back. I have got hold of a pair of 16x7.5 steel wheels of an old AMG merc and want to fit them. I have test fit the rims (without tyres) and there seem to be no fouling but could do with some final clarification before I spend some money on new rubber

The wheels are as follows
16"
7.5J wide
et 41

I have test fit with a 10mm spacer to make et31 i presume and they do look better as they are further from the trailing arm etc but with the downside of them being closer to the outside of the van

I am also looking to lower the van (crewcab) by 50mm as it carries nothing and looks like its on stilts at the moment just in case this makes any difference to the answers i hopefully get

Right thats all the information

now the questions are

Should I use a spacer? if so what size?
What width tyres should I use 205 225?
has anybody any preference to makes of tyre?

As always thanks in advance for all your time and I look forward to someone making sense of this!!

I don't understand why you want to fit odd rims...

all 16" or all 14"

why the difference?
I don't know but that might cause a problem with insurance or MOT

why the difference?
to raise the gearing? and to look like an entry in wacky racers!

There's nothing to stop you - just so long as each end matches side-to-side.

Whether it's a good move - either technically or cosmetically - well, that's another issue... <grin>
