Fridge and cooker safety inspection

Hi all
thought Id share this with you as it might help?
I had smelt a gas leak in the van (last year) and traced it to the flexible hose going to the rear of the hob unit. I saw that (all) my hoses were date stamped '1988' - and have probably not been changed since their initial installation at Bilbos Conversions. I also wanted to follow the advice on here and service the fridge (Electrolux RM2200).
I have replaced the flexi hoses and clips and serviced the fridge/flue etc. When I put it back it failed to work at all! I wanted to get it all professionally checked over and a good mate is a GasSafe engineer and has just been to look at it . The failure to start was a loose spade connection and a short in the HT ignitor lead. Sorted them. Also the metal gas pipe feeding the fridge (an 'olive' joint?) was leaking, minutely. Mate used a sort of electronic gas detecting 'wand' and was able to pinpoint a couple of tiny leaks. In short, he's gonna replace the old pipe/s and check it all out for me, so that'll be peace of mind.
He did say that the date stamped flexi hose ought to be replaced every 5 years, but knows that mostly, this is never done.
All Id say in summary, is the gas 'wand' thingy looked to do the pinpointing of any problems really effectively, and would be useful to have a good poke around in your gas lockers etc...maybe have to beg/steal/borrow one and bring it along to meets?
Stay safe people....
