Hi All

200 miles on a full tank !

All urban journeys of about 5 miles each.

Compression is v good.

Does that sound right to people?

Think engine needs a tune-up & there is abit of a funny noise. I'm hoping it is the water pump.

I reckon it sounds about right, although 'could do better' will always be a likelihood with these vans, hoping to get better than that in mine since I put the recon in but I've not really worked it out properly - 25p a mile is a ballpark for mostly traffic jams and round town - God knows what that is in mpg........

The Syncro tank is bigger than a 2wd btw - 60l IIRC, although someone will correct me immediately if I'm wrong...... :D

300-350 miles on a tank is my norm, petrol, syncro, either 1.9 or 2.1, crewie, van or hi-top - it's 70 litres to fill !!!!!!, 2wd's are only 60 Jen : )
16-20p/mile petrol, 11-13p on lpg

How do you know you've used a full tank Karl? Did you run it out? Did you even fill it right up - with a syncro requires 5 minutes usually, for the last 10 litres, or reverse back onto a levelling wedge to tilt her over to pax side a bit.

the way to do mpg, is to repeatedly brim and use, brim and use noting the mileage at every fill... after about 4 or 5 of these, then do the sums from 1st brim to last brim, best of course is to note the driving conditions for each brim to brim drive, and plot it all in Xl. Same pump, same station for at least 1st and last brim too... you do not have to drive to empty, fill up at any time, as long as you nrim in the same way, at same pump and note the mielage.

You're prob getting 18 - 22 mpg at best... if your van goes well, feels good and pulls well, then thats why - back off a bit, use power to build up kinetic energy when its not going to be exchanged for heat in the brakes 20 seconds later.. o-wise, any acceleration over minimum necessary is wasted.

I have just done 2000 miles to France and back in my Syncro DOKA
1.9 TD 5 people plus furniture on the way out beer and wine on the way back. Travelling at 65 - 70mph.
Average consumption for the whole trip was 27.65 mpg

That is a good figure - I'm getting about 23~24 mpg on Greenway Machos at about 34 psi (1.9TD Syncro Doka, slightly overboosted and overfuelled)

In 2003 I did 2990 miles down to Corsica and back in the High top Autosleeper 2.1i syncro without the propshaft in and got 20.69 mpg for the trip.

In 2004 I did 2744 miles down to Corsica and back in the same van with the propshaft in and got 20.83 mpg for that trip.

Managed 26 mpg with the van as light as is possible running on 225/70/15, 7% over geared. Also managed about 8 mpg while having some off road fun!! Give it some real stick on the road and its about 19 mpg
