Sliding door outside handle

The inevitable has happened and our outside sliding door handle has broken. Aren't they jolly expensive?!

A question. Do the later outside door handles directly fit the earlier type doors? If so, does that make the door difficult to open as I believe the later type ones are shorter.

Thanks in advance for any (useful) answers.

It will be more difficult to open an early door with a later type handle. The later handle only moves about an inch before the door opens where as its a proper pull on an early one.

Left or right hand drive?

right hand drive, sliding door on the left.

It was never that easy to open the door with the original handle, maybe the whole lock assembly needs lubricating too.

Its still useful to know if the later (cheaper) handles will fit, earlier ones seem pricey. I guess there is a risk a replacement used one will break at some point in the future anyway.

Any other wise words appreciated, thanks!

early/late are the same price

also right / left hand are interchangeable .

obvioulsy an early will not fit a late door

a late will fit an early door , however it will rub the paint . i just needs about 1mm shaving off the end and all is good!
