mounting position of Carbon Monoxide detector

Just bought a Carbon Monoxide detector for the camper, as it sounds like a bloody good idea !

Where have you guys positioned yours? The instructions say " not to be placed in a kitchen, bathroom, in a corner of a room and not within 15 ft of a combustion source " that kinda leaves outside........

And has anyone ever had theirs go off?

mines never gone off, your meant to mount them head height. So as i have kids sleeping in the top, i put it up there with them, but if it's just you put it by your pillow

Thanks Lloydy, I will take another look and fit it before the next trip.

As long as it's not placed in a place where the air doesn't circulate somewhere above the threatening source will be OK. I would rather have a false alarm from being too close to the source than no alarm at all!

I would also say head height, like you say, the fitting recommendations don't really make much sense when applied to a camper, all you can do is use common sense.
I would say: away from doors/vents and windows, where a slight draft may give the unit a false (low) reading.
I was always told CO was one of the heavier ellements in air so is prone to finding the lowest point in a building so with that in mind I wouldn't mount the unit any higher than head height.

i agree, mount it where your head is when you are asleep, just slightly lower.
I think it is heavier than air, unless of coarse it is subject to hot air rising, ie from the fridge, or cooker, so dont mount it on the kitchen side wall. Mine is on the front of the seat/bed base, just under where my head should be when asleep, in the centre of the van pretty much. Had no false alarms, but burning the toast does make it work.

Actually Carbon Monoxide is slightly lighter than the air that we normally breathe.

I have 2, one that is also a smoke alarm in the high top where kids sleep, and one level with the bed downstairs. Not gone off when they shouldn't yet
