Hi, I have one fitted to my camper, and yes it does work on the earth side. It is normal to disconnect earth first when disconnecting the battery so would make sense to isolate vis the earth, but happy to bow down to any sparky's out there

My Mercedes 508 came with an isolator as standard - it is on the earth side also.

I have fitted a battery isolator switch to the earth lead of my van. I got it from SCS (www.electricalcarservices.com) it is Battery isolator switch negative ECS D202100 and cost £7.26 plus Vat. You just undo the earth strap fit the switch to the earth post and fit the strap to the other side of switch. To isolate the battery you just undo the knob on the switch a turn.
