Trailing Arm

Hi to all,
Today I set about replacing shox all round, but I have noticed on the rear trailing arm that the spring keying in possition has corroded to a state that I can pull it off by hand.
My query is, does the hole arm need replacing or can I weld a replacement nobbely thing in in its place as its only a keying in possion for the spring.
I do have a welder come fabricator at hand if theres no problems with doing it that way.
Cheers Albert
