Propex unit under the Van?

Hello
when I looked under my t25 transporter van to see where the cables and gas line went I saw them going into a box under the middle of the van? I assume that this is to do with the propex heating unit (NOT WORKING!)
can anyone advise me what might be the problem and would the inside of this box be complicated-could it been mended? Is there anything inside to mend
I haven't got a clue about anything but am willing to learn if it is put simply
Thanks anybody
:)

Have you got a grill on the floor of your van ...looks like an air vent

hi
there is a round tube that the 2 propex wires and the gas pipe run through from the inside through the body to the underneath of the van.
There is a VENT on the outside of the van that runs to the propex unit, the vent just sits flush with the side (nderneath) and is about 8/9cm square
Does this help?

OK can you see the propex heater?
If you can...turn it on...there is a little LED that will light red I think.
If it doesn't then check.....
power supply, to the switch or thermostat

ok then
the leisure bty is not in at the moment so presumably that wont work and the gas supply is cut off-not a lot of hope there I guess!!
When you say can I see the heater do you mean the little black box in the van or the big metal thing under the van (on the outside)?
Thanks for any help

The propex heater has two aluminium flexible pipes attached to it with a nozzle at one end for the heat to come out. together with the gas pipe and power
mine is orange and has propex 1800 written on it and it is located inside the van.
use a car battery if you want but connect it up, it doesn't matter about the gas at the mo, lets just see if there's power at the heater.

:) hi Kevtherev
now I wonder are you about to lose patience with me....please dont..I shall go out to the van and look but I am totally confused ....
INSIDE THE VAN
My van has a little black plastic box inside the van that the 2 wires run from and that has a little red light, an on/off switch, a dial running from 1-7 with a little green light next to it and a little gas flame icon next to the green light. Does that make sense? It just says PROPEX HEATING...no model number. The 2 wires (black casing with red and black wires inside) run from the unit through the hole in the floor of the van to the unit underneath the van
UNDERNEATH THE VAN
All I can see isthe following:
1 pipe running from the unit to the side of the van with a vent
2 pipes running from the unit into the van (obviously supplying the hot air)
I can't see where the wires from inside the van are going
How do I connect it to a car battery, which parts do I connect? How is the propex unit connected to the van? Is it connected to the leisure battery
God, I wish you lived down the road!!
Hope to hear from you
Sally

Hi,
Fitting the Propex outside the vehicle is pretty unusual, as it's got some electronic stuff inside and isn't very well sealed. However if it's been adequately protected from the elements it may be OK. As regards wiring, there a basic fitting guide I was sent by Propex, which I've uploaded to my webspace. It's in Microsoft Powerpoint format (don't ask me why), so you'll need to download and install 'Powerpoint Viewer' (Google for it). The guide is here.
Also check the 80-90 Wiki.

Yes it is unusual thats what has been confusing
The leisure battery connections may connect the propex to the power. The wires might be connected to the leisure "loom"
do any lights come on when you do connect it?

hi Kevtherev
van isn't taxed, moted or insured so no, what a shame, lucky you!! :(
As for the other, I need to get the leisure battery back in and check it- thanks for your patience and will get in touch, though it will be some time because the battery is somewhere else etc....
can i contact you on email address other than this site or would that not be cricket?
