Syncro Wing mirrors mounts

I got sick of bidding on mirror mounts to replace my knacked alloy ones....so I made some :)

Made of steel and welded, polished and painted. Cost me about £20 for both sides, most of which was the stainless bolts etc.
Now has the added advantage of moving if its hit rather than snapping the mount!

I really like what you have done. I also really like that colour, green synco's rock.

I would perhaps just make the top mount slimmer than the door frame, but anyhow that is a really neat and simple solution. Could bend up that steel tube quite easily.

Thanks, Yes I could have made it a lot slimmer, but it has 6 screws so that any impact will not rip it out (like the previous one did!)

I dont know why someone like Brickwerks dont make them as its not that difficult, took me about a day in my garage :) Got to be cheaper than originals!!

What did you do for the mirror head itself?

One of ours has a broken glass, and the mount onto the arm is not quite right, so it won't adjust well - I've been thinking of just getting a pair of generic HGV heads, something like http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/260695006790" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A friend who works in a VW dealer's just come back to me.

Glass - VW (Germany...?) have ONE left in stock. £42.60
Mounts - £5.15

I can live with the crack, but I'm having a clamp.

I have the part number on a receipt dated 09/09/2009 for 281 857 547B (convex exterior mirror) £24.16 + vat.

On the 30/10/06 the whole truck mirror cost £67.56 + vat!!!

It's gone up a chunk...

Anyway, mirror head on order, and clamp arrived already, so looks like UK stock - I'll confirm part numbers when I get 'em in my sweaty paws.

Yeah, my dad has them that way round on his Florida, for "better angle/coverage" - I prefer them on the inside, down to personal preference I guess!

Mirrors should protrude no more than 200mm beyond the vehicle width each side. unless the lower edge is more than 2.4m high, now that would be a flippin high syncro!!

Only reason to put them on that way is to whack pedestrians with no risk of damaging your wheels on the curb. :run
