Get your small mole grips and grab the end of the clip and leaver the grips off the edge of the CV joint and pull it out. If the tabs on the clip snaps, simply get a tiny screw driver and tap it into the grove and it will push the other end out so you can then grab that with your grips. The clip will be right out then and just tap the CV joint off.
Dont say you were going to suggest that and was just making sure

I will show you if you pop round, its dead easy.

Flat screwdriver in between the two 'horns' of the circlip, turn screwdriver 90' then pull circlip off with small needlenose pliers worked for me.

What tends to happen is that the ring does not stay central on the shaft and it stays hooked in at the operside side to the ears.
When opening up the ears, try not to pull on the ears, you need it to unclip the er, clip evenly around the *ahem* shaft.

Hold the shaft in a vice and smack the inner bit of the joint with a big copper hammer. springs off easy then.

Flat screwdriver wedges it open then

We used a brass drift to knock it off for extra access

Did mine 2 weeks ago using small pair of external ciclip pliers. You can hold it open and give it a tap at the same time.

Snap ring pliers are what you need, not circlip pliers.
Or, I find the tool for vauxhall joints more use, the snap ring pliers with with a large knurled knob that you can jack the clip apart and leave it expanded leaving 2 hands free to wollop the joint.

I think it might be sorted now, its not as conventional as what you might think in this case....
