bare metal rustoleum mini

hi all, i have a mini which i've decided to rustoleum paint with a roller. I have the car stripped of windows and all trim ready for sanding back to bare metal - gona used strip and clean discs on a grinder. I'm doing this outdoors under a car port so will be doing a panel at a time. I've been researching for ages now on whats involved but still have a few niggling questions if someone could help me out with? I've never done anything like this before so want to make double sure on everything before i start!
1. when i have the panel down to bare metal and wiped down should i coat the entire panel with vactan . Is vactan the same as metal ready? or should i just vactan where there were rust spots?
2. do i use etch primer on top of vactan before high build primer and paint?
My heads a bit muddled reading various websites so i thought i'd just ask on the site that gave me the inspiration to do the job in the first place! any advice would be much appreciated folks.

Hi mate, not sure of the answers to your questions but I do know there is a DVD on how to do it (£8), a massive thread and a section on the wiki.

I have spent ages reading the thread and wiki yet I am about 2 years off painting my van

I had a mini a while back, miss it sometime!!

Good luck

Jon.

Bare metal + carport + UK weather = rust.
Vactan will still need to be sanded down after, as it puts a protective film over the coated area*.
Covering the entire panel in Vactan will be expensive.
Primer is not waterproof, so the mini will still rust.

* Only sand it back when you are ready to paint

yeah its not ideal, this is why i was planning on doing one panel at a time so as not to leave metal exposed. I wont be starting this work for another month so as to have slightly better weather for it. I think i almost have the info now though,
1. strip paint
2. any filler needed
3. etch primer
4. high build primer
5. rustoleum
if i do come across mild rust which i sand off should i use vactan on that area at all or will the etch primer do the trick? and if i do use patches of vactan can i etch prime over it?
I have the dvd johnny but thats more of a paint on paint sorta affair.
