Folks,
There is a thread in Camping about cheap prices with LD Lines..
Looking for any opinions about the company - never heard of them!

You mean there's a forum for posts about 'Camping &Travelling' including Holidays & Ferries etc?
What a great idea.

They're a French company - Louis Dreyfus Lines, IIRC. They took on the Dover-Boulogne route after SpeedFerries went south. They were a definite improvement over SpeedFerries - I was well disappointed when they closed that route.
Can't remember who we used for Portsmouth-St Malo a few years ago, but it's a long ol' crossing. We went for the "sleeper lounge", rather than a cabin, for the overnight outbound - and it was NOOOO fun at all. Deafening snores.

Great. used them for the last two years Dover - Boulonge . Only a couple of crossing a day so not as flexible as the main Calais routes but a lot cheaper and service quality is equally as good,
Boulogne is so much nicer than Calais as well and if you are heading towards Normandy closer.

Never had an issue with them and will be doing Newhaven Dieppe in July. Im never expectin michelin star food on any ferry and LD are perfectly fine for comfort and service too. If were headed to central or western France its the first place we look for a ferry.
...I miss speedferries. They were a bit maverick and got a hard time from the bigger companies - ferry crossings for £20 were always nice!

Indeed - but Chris's right in saying that Boulogne was just so much nicer than Calais.
I'd have happily paid a bit more if it'd meant SpeedFerries had enough money to actually pay the docking fees and stay in business...

i have used LD Lines on a few times from Pompey to Le Harve and it's absolutely fine, supposed to be a no thrills ferry, but there really isn't much difference between them and the others. They bought new ferries last year, so they're clean and comfortable. Have a great time

I hope you checked out the Dieppe route, its cheaper, and just a three hour crossing.

Folks.
LD Ferry booked to Le Havre.
We are quite a bit West and plan on heading to the West Coast with this being our first time I wanted to keep the miles as low as possible whilst still affording to get away!
Thanks for all advice.

Hi
LD lines are great we went with them last year really nice journey (although le havre is a bit of a dump so just get straight on the motorway when you get there!) the ferry was fast, clean and not overcrowded in the slightest - i put the other post on the forum about them because last year cost £380 or so return and i managed to book the other day for £253 return ! same as you can't be arsed to drive all the way to dover and back down the other side to save £100 or so, but then we are heading to brittany anyway
