power steering (Wheel to rack snapped)

Hi

I'm leaking fluid everywhere... the fuel tank is covered in fluid but I can't see the leak.

Think i've traced it to the drivers side wheel. the metal rod that goes from the wheel up into the arch and backdown towards the rack seems loose one side.. and I did hear a horrible snap the other day when I went up a slope.

Is this the part that replaces those metal rods?

Ok is there a replacement part for the small metal pip that goes from the wheel to the rack?

Anyone else help with this?

Going to book it in a garage and don't really want to take it and pay for their time while they source a part, I like to turn up with the part in hand!

very vague description , dont think anything matches what you say?

track rod goes from hub(behind wheel) to rack

a picture?

tie bar goes from cross member to bottom arm(front to rear ish)

those pipes you mention go from the rack to the engine , down the middle of the van , over the tank

could your leak be from the rubber boot , on the end of the rack along the track rod to the hub?

if so then you need a rack rebuild kit

It's about as descriptive as I can manage!

It's a tube that comes from the wheel, attaches to a thin metal pipe that goes up into the arch and towards the rack.

I've found a garage, but looks like he can't be bothered to mess about fixing it and will just source a replacement unit..

Its not your brake line is it?

that's a thin pipe that comes out of the wheel, and then off into the wheel arch....

That could be loose as well then!

So maybe that's not where the rack is leaking after all.

Ergh.. anyone want to buy a van?

take the cover off the speedo , check the fluid level

also power steering fluid is red
brake fluid , clear to brown depending on age

"Driver's Side" ... is that rhd or lhd ?

There are fuel tank breather pipes which cross to the expansion tanks under each front wheel arch, is the p.a.s. fluid running along that to the wheel arch from a leak above the tank ?

Otherwise there's the front brake caliper flexy hose on each side and the speedo cable on the nearside.

Like our good friend Aidan say's a photo would help.
