I would be looking at the fuses first and then check the fan for a short
heater

It could be a bad earth, open glove box and try find wires coming from heater then follow brown wire to earthing point on left of fuse box. This worked for me after thinking my heater blower was faulty after I had removed dash and blower was tested.

Yeah was about to say that. They can seize if unused. Its a dash out job (not tooooo bad) and then unscrew (if they'll shift) the screws that hold the heater box to the front bulkhead. You can generally get access through the vents behind (once you pull unit towards you) to get some WD40 in there. DO NOT run the fan until you've done this.
Also on mine, everytime I tried to start fan it blew the wiper fuse - another sign. Doubt you need a new heater box - just free it off. Might be worth cutting an access hole in the top of the box in case it ever happens again
Same applies if you fit another. Make SURE the fan turns freely and apply some WD and TEST it before you fit the whole lot back. While you're in there, maybe grease the wiper mechanism and replace the washer pipes (pet shops do a silicon pipe cheap that is a great replacement). Do the jobs that you can't normally do while the dash is in. I fitted light-up washer jets at the same time
I'm in Coventry so if you're not too far away I'm happy to lend a hand.

For the uninitiated, 'duck' is a Midlands specific equivalent of the more familiar "ere mate". Much like most call a bus a bus - except for us its a 'buz'. We also (arguably) have the best Mild, eat pork 'batches' (rolls to everyone else) and have the biggest custard slices you've ever seen. After living in Essex for 25 years its good to be back and hear my old lingo again. Cheers me duck!
Actually, annoyingly Northerners view us as Southerners and Southerners view us as Northerners - we're neither one nor the other...

'Duck' is officially a 'Stokey' thing if you don't mind Mr coventry boy Mucker, Bostin and Adoo is far more akin to us yam yam's.

Only if theres crumpet thrown in our kid. Also EVERYONE in Nuneaton says 'me duck'. Its hard to pinpoint its specific origins but agree Coventry is more of a flat accent.
