34 PICT carb on DG engine settings??

Hi guys,
I have now a DG engine block but with what I believe is a DF manifold and 34PICT-5 carb that I took from the previous engine I had (im not really sure about the code of the previous engine, i have in my mind DY, but that doesn't appear in the Haynes manual, probably an engine code just for norwegian market?? Or I just remember wrong). But definitelly is a 34PICT5 carb
I hope you can guide me a bit with the settings for the carb and timing.
What I understand is that the timing should be around 7.5 BTDC.
But now to adjust the mixture, what would be the CO2 values and at which idle speed? Should I follow the DF values, or the DG values? An average?

the Timing is dictated by which distributor is fitted. A fully functioning double vac would be 5 deg ATDC. Single vac 7.5 deg BTDC.
Adjust the CO to about 1.5-1.75 as the EY engine is 2.0 +- 1 which give an overlap of the 1.5 +- 0.5 of the DF. At 850 RPM

I have double vac distributor. But I remember I read somewhere that timing should be also 5ATDC static, which is actually 7.5 BTDC at idle because of the advance generated by the suction of this distributor?
So then the CO levels where EY and DF overlap. SO it doesn's matter that the block is DG?

Think you have it the wrong way round. The twin vac distributor retards the timing to 5 ATDC when the throttle is closed with the engine running which would be 7.5 BTDC static or with the retard vacuum disconnected.

Mmmm... Probably I am confused with the very concept! Sorry for dumb questions. So then that means that if i disconnect the vacum hoses in the distributor, and run the engine at idle speed, i should try to get the TDC mark in the pulley (it just has the U notch=TDC?) 7.5 degrees in the counterclockwise direction?
If i try to get the U notch, from lets say 11hours, to close to the center of the engine joint, it starts stalling. So the U notch should be somewhere 11 o clock. I have a little print out with degrees so I can try to find the right angle, but If i'm wrong from the roots, then it doesn't help

The pulley should have a V notch if it is original with the twin vac dizzy and only one notch the mark will be 5 ATDC lined up with the crankcase centreline and needs to be set with a strobe light with the engine running at idle with the vac pipes connected.

Aham.... well, my pulley has just an U mark... probably is not original... I also read about that in Haynes and got all confused. So just one U notch wont tell me anything, right?
I took it to service and tried to explain all this, and they supposed to set in on time, fit to 800RPM and adjust the mixture... to 1.5% in CO emissions, as per DF (it was DF original engine)
But now I think im using less fuel, which is good, but also I feel i have less power. On uphills now i get to the bottom of the gas pedal, where before I didnt had to...
Is there a way to know what that pulley is really marking???

Thanks for your comments! I will recheck the timing values that VW did. I assume there is something wrong on what they did, since i have now less power and same high fuel consumption.

Hello,
Sorry again for asking about this.
I took a picture of the pulley and how i think more or less should look when i see it with the strobe light, @~850rpm, with idle stabilizing unit plugs plugged together, and vac. pipes connected.
I assumed the big notch is the U notch (TDC) and the one on the back just a mark from a preious mechanic.
In the picture the U-notch is not positioned exactly at 5 degrees, but what I want to know is if is on the right side of crankcase centreline???

U is TDC and V is 5 deg BTDC
Centreline of case is the flat side of the bit sicking out (verticle)
If the procedure for setting timing requires 5 deg ATDC then you will have to measure the same amount as the BTDC mark back to the right of the U (TDC) mark..
Personally I would dissconect the retard side permenantly and blank the pipe to the carb (but not the tube on the vac unit) and run it where its set in the pic... ( 7-8 deg BTDC)
set up with no vac to advance side and idle unit plugs together, and refit the advance pipe and idle stab plugs (ISU's have a habit of failing and cause poor running so you can run with the plugs together)

But isnt it the other way around? I mean, the picture is showing ~7-8 deg ATDC? Since in clockwise rotation, the TDC mark has already passed the crankcase centerline?

Also if i rotate the pulley clockwise in 1st gear, the car moves forward... makes sense?

The V notch is before top dead centre so I would imagine that pulley is travelling anti clockwise
