fuel tank

Is there any reason why a fuel tank with openings to air will not flow freely? This is a problem I'm facing at the moment, could it have any thing to do with the white and silver mesh thing in the bottom of the tank? The openings have been treated to an air line. I really need to get to the bottom of this as it's driving me bonkers .I'm sure that the answer is staring me in the face but I am.... tuppence short of a shilling. Rob

If you pull the hose off at the fuel filter does it let the fuel through?

Hello Tom, No, that is sometimes. The tank out of position with no hoses will not flow out. Rob

I drained and removed a tank today. The van was facing up hill so the outlet would have been the lowest point. When I dropped the tank there was still 1-2 litres in it.
Put a couple of gallons in.
If not I have a tank here I'll do you a good price on.

yes you need a good "head" of fuel to get the flow going

Many thanks guys I will pass this on to the garage to-morrow. I've been looking at an archived query about a 2.1 that has severe idling and running probs and it suggests that the idling stabilisation valve might be gummed up as it has been stood for a very long time and also the black box behind the rear light might be corroded, any thoughts. Thanks again Rob at this rate I'll be owing enough beer to float the Ark Royal and be happy to pay.
