1.9 T25 starting/running problems

Hi all,

This is my first post on here so please forgive me if I've put this in the wrong place.

I'm posting this on behalf of my sister and her '91 1.9 T25 which has been parked up over the winter. She came to start it a couple of weeks ago and it was taking an age to fire, but when it did we took it for a spin to blow the cobwebs away. It was very sluggish initially but after 10 mins or so it was trucking along beautifully. However the next day it failed to start and we tracked this down to a knackered starter motor.

We replaced the starter motor with one from GSF, and now it'll turn over albeit it's a little lumpy, but when the auto choke switches off it stalls unless it's given loads of revs. The carb looks ok from what I can see (although I must admit I don't know carbs!) and we've replaced the ignition coil, but the problem persists. We've whipped the spark plugs out and the tips are all very black, but other than that spark gaps appear right, electrodes are ok etc. The distributor cap was replaced last year.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where else I can look for problems with this? Anyone else experienced something similar?

Thanks in advance.
