battery warning light

The battery warning light on our 1990 transporter is on, then off, then flickering ...
bus has been standing since december, but started first time and showed no other problems on a 90min round trip.

handbook says this could be the vee-belt, but I cannot find out what this is.

The battery seemed quite new when we got the bus last autumn ... do I need to worry about this?

I had this last year and was a loose alternator which meant the belt was not tight enough.

Simple even for a numptie like me to fix.

Worth a try!!

Failing that, is the battery properly charged up?

If the belt isn't slack....
At under a tenner the brush pack/regulator unit is the most LIKELY cause.
Contact details for the regulator/bush pack supplier:
Vehicle Electrics (Birmingham Ltd) The aftermarket number for MY alternator (yours may be different) was VERG 1009 but they have a list to cross reference your particular aternator number against so you can order the correct item. Mine was £9.70 incl post.
CONTACT VEHICLE ELECTRICS, 166 STOCKFIELD ROAD, ACOCKS GREEN, BIRMINGHAM, B27 6AU. TEL : 0121 706 0688 EMAIL: VEHICLEELECTRICS@AOL.COM

Two screws on the back of the alternator to free the old unit....the brushes are most likely worn very low.

well, we took him out again yesterday, no sign of the light until we slowed down to park up. and now no sign.
alternator checked and is charging well, belts fine.

we are working on the assumption of a little bit of damp from standing in wales for two months.
