Nice looking bus; in the States they are fortunate enough to still have a huge wilderness to explore on tracks or not as you desire.

Id definately off-road it over there; but at the price i'd also know when to stop and find reverse gear

Yup - most off-roading over there involves far less chance of scratches and bangs on body panels than driving on their highways - this one might not just make a quarter century in as new condition, but a half century if he finds the right new owner.

Maybe we should tie this thread to the one about parts counters and atttitudes, concluding that whatever their (unwritten) policy is on older vehicle support - they're not going to get away with it so easily

Oh man that was obliterated! Id say that was at least 70mph. Maybe even more.

How do we know that - shame they don't say. Maybe 100km/hr, 62 mph?

This video is from a crash test with 120 kilometers per our versus a deformable barrier.

Originally this videos were not for public, the crashed a Mercedes 500SL and other cars on this barrier.

I dont think you should worry too much
that van probably had a bit of rust in the seams

What would worry me is not how soft the front appears at that impact speed but how stiff the load bed is. I wouldn't want to be in a DoKa or pickup if something with some moment hit it from behind!!

- not that I am that - if I hit anything of substance at 120 km/hr head-on, I don't think I'd be expecting to be collecting my pension

That goes for caravelles as well, our dear buses are fairly well built:

This Punto hit our old van somewhere bewteen 40-50mph last year on the way to cornwall. We were stationary.



Damage to the old Syncro:

Still wrote it off mind - bent chassis rail too much. All somewhat helped by a decent Westie towbar. Still drove away from the incident too.

The force from the impact actually tore the Bulkhead behind the front passenger seat were it was forced backwards. Claire is only just finishing physio and I'm slowly coming out of a depression from losing that van.

Question is, are we better of having crumple and impact zones, or having something solid. - if that were a transit or somesuch, that back would have crumpled all the way upto behind the front passenger seat (I've seen it happen!)
