4th gear problem

Hi everyone
I have an 1982 1.6 diesel van that drives very well problem is that the gearbox jumps out of 4th when ever load is applied to the box, this means that I have to drive the van with my hand on the gear stick no pressure is required just the weight of my hand is enough to keep it in gear. All other gears are fine and all gears select very well with no noise coming from the box. someone told me the 4th speed syncro was worn which would allow the box to jump out of gear. my question is does this sound right and is it possible to get the bits and replace the syncro baulk ring. I'm a very competent marine engineer so would have a go but if special tools are required then this task will have to be left and another box sought.
