Just been offered a complete Audi 80 Td AAZ..
Will this engine suit a T25 Diesel,or is the Audi AAZ different to the VW engine,I notice alternator is on left as opposed to right on my 17600 Td?
Thanks

This is waht Alt engines says...

1.9TD

The key engine here is the AAZ - this has been fitted to a wide range of VAG vehicles and is a good solid engine, with a nice fat torque curve. Like the 1.9NA it's possible to use mostly stock T25 fitting kits, you may need to trim the engine mounting bars to make the turbo fit when it's between cylinder 2 & 3. These engines are tough units, but may have done a lot of miles, so make sure there aren't head gasket problems, or worn valve stem seals when buying.

Some use the AAZ turbo and manifold, others put the JX manifold and turbo on - Andy Simpson should be able answer whether the Audi AAZ is Ok for this adaption.

be very careful to check the near side (pump side) engine mounting points on the audi block casting because they can be in different places to the vw mounting point due to inline mounting rather than transverse such as in seats and golfs etc meaning a custom os transporter engine bracket i know i had to make one for my van when the 1z tdi went in also the turbo oil feed and oil filter housing are different as there lent over to clear audi mounting and the late aaz 1z oil filter housing is larger than early 1.6 td type ones so the t3 standard one wont fit, your t3 alternator and mountings will fit on to the correct side of the audi engine ok . below photo of my custom audi 1z to t3 engine mount

Some nice bracketry there Angry - are these AAZs any different from a durability or power aspect than the VW ones?

NO

As above the transverse and inline mounting points are different, it will fit just a bit more work. Most of the inline engines petrol or diesel have different mounting points to transverse (why don't vw think of us?).

I used a JX manifold and AAZ turbo on mine, all bolted straight on.
