chaps my crewcab seems to have developed some cooling/overheating issues!

symptoms are oviously the gauge is going above halfway & the red LED starts flashing
no heat from the heater at all
radiator is absolutely stone cold!
electric fan is'nt kicking in obviously cause the rad is'nt even getting wrm to the touch!!

i changed the thermostat & that did'nt do anything
i've took the thermostat out to see if the radiator gets warm & thats made no differance either
its got no visable leaks in the system at all or the radiator
i've bled the cooling system no end of times in the brickwerks method!

what could be the problom???

blocked radiator?
broken water pump?

i'm a bit lost i've not had cooling issues with a motor before

what doya reckon chaps/chics?

right i've bought a new head gasket/valve stem oil seals & new headbolts, i have a spare/good 1y pump with the right mounting bolts so i think i'll do the lot!
get the head a minimal skim & get the chap to check the head is in good order!

i think this head gasket failure is due to a dodgy thermostat going a bollock! i only fitted the current thermostat last october when i put the 1.9 1y in my van!

is there any way of testing a 1y thermostat???? i ask as i have 3 new ones made by quinton hazel but thye have no markings on so i'm a lil jubious about them!!!!

If you have an accurate thermometer then it is possible to suspend the thermostat in a saucepan of water, slowly heating it up, noting down the temperature at the point of opening.

yep it should open to at least 10mm gap when the water boils
