Can anyone help please? OK, so it's a 1986 transporter with a Holdsworth conversion. I have done the elctrical test and the motor seems dead. Removed the dash etc and the 4 screws around the heater box from inside. Took the grill of and found that there is this part of the front end which I suppose is obscuring the screws that are inside the grill area? Are the screws behind this and if so how should I get to them?

iirc - there are four quite larger 'x - head' bolts (as opposed to screws?) which secure the heater box to the front bulkhead. Two are easy to get at amd generally arent rusted as they live effectively 'inside' the van. The other two look the same and can be seen from inside the van, but are screwed into captine nuts (ie the nuts are spot welded into position). These screws are usually seized, as the poke through that front panel and get all the moisture from the outside world. When I undid mine (for same job as you are doing) both sheared off, so I ended up drilling both remains out and refitting with a bolt and washer and nut.

Tip - some screwdrivers have a hexagonal portion where the handle meets the shaft, mine do, and this is great for getting a ring spanner onto and giving extra purchase. That said, if you can do all you can with Plusgas etc and get the screws out without breaking them, so much the better!

Thanks for that, I've found the screws with captive nuts and have now got the heater box out. There were 6 screws inside and two of these went into captive nuts above the radiator.
After oiling up the bearings the motor still does not turn when powered up but is completely free and turns by hand, so it's a new one for me !!!
Two of the screws sheared off so I have soaked WD40 and will leave till next week to remove with mole grips. Many thanks.

WD40 is a moisture dispersant.what you need is plusgas

Thanks Rob, will get some today. The next problem is the refitting of the heater box, all the posts I have seen say to seal the box with siilicone and use clips. Silicone is no prob but where do I get the clips from?

Forget the clips , not needed , as a matter of interest did you check to see if it wasn't the switch that was knackered ?

I drilled little holes in the parts where the 'tabs' stick out, then use little stainless self tappers. World a treat.

Yes first thing was to hot wire and bypass the switch. This had no effect so the motor was either siezed or broken and as it turned out it was kaput..

Many thanks to all the helpful hints and tips. The bus is all back together and AOK.
