Battery

Hi all
Have just bought a 1983 model and love her already
Apparently previous owners have added alot of accessories which are connected direct to the main battery resulting in of wires to the main battery! I have had to have RAC out tonight and he found out the battery wire is shorting due to my seat touching the terminal wire and therefore not charging the battery. he said something about one wire going from the battery to something that would sit further down under my seat so as not so many wires direct to the battery! Anyone know what he means? Been searching everywhere with no luck.

Thank you muchly

Carole

Think he might have meant something along these line.

I think a single live then link the terminals but I'm no auto electrician but I'm sure somebody on here will be along and put you right

put a second battery in the box under the passenger seat and put all those accessory wires to there

Sounds more like you may have the wrong battery fitted which is to tall. The correct battery should be 175mm tall which gives plenty of clearance for extra connections.

Battery height is OK but that wiring needs to come off the positive terminal of the one under the driver's seat and go to a distribution point/busbar. Ideally a fusebox fed by a single heavy cable. If the battery was turned round the terminals would be less likely to be under the seat when the seat was back.
