i have just taken delivery of the gasket i ordered from jk and on the label it says vw typ 2 and t25 1200-1600, problem is mine is a 2litre , are theese gaskets all the same or have i ordered the wrong 1? im sure on their website it said it was the one for my engine,
i dnt want to attempt to remove the old 1 to find out that the new 1 wont fit,

if any1 has any idea if it will fit that would be awesome

2 litre CU gasket 021 101 481 also CV
T25 watercooled 113 101 483 D also CT air cooled and Type 2

im confused is this the right 1 or not?

oh, is there actually any difference? i guess there probly is, its just that my camper is actually a 1970cc not a 2000cc Aircooled and it says it fitts 1979-1992, 1600cc, 1900cc and 2100cc are they a different shape then? i mite have to use some sort of gasket seal on the old 1 for now as its dripping oil all over my heat exchanger and the smoke when i pull up somewere is getting worse from the burning oil

lets get something straight here....

you have a 2 ltr Aircooled. This, if you look on your log book, is actually 1970cc (we round it up).

the 1900 is the 1.9 watercooled engine. the 2100 is the 2.1 water cooled engine. 1600 - you have to be careful here cos there is a 1.6 diesel as well as a 1.6 Aircooled, but diesel parts are always alot different and are normally in a totally different category. I include it just so that you are aware.

So, when you buy Aircooled, you need to make sure its for the 2lt, not the 1.9 or you will be buying water cooled parts.

Don't bother with gasket seal until you have the right gasket...in my experience it makes a hell of a mess, and the cork gasket (the proper one) is much better. Have you got a motor factors local? You might get it off the shelf if you phone around. But make sure you stipulate 2lt Aircooled. Alternatively, ring JK and get it changed.

(ps---and when someone takes the time to list the proper part that you need....and its a different part number...its pretty safe to assume that they are different parts!! oh yes...and a Thankyou is important....its board etiquette you know...and it means your newbie questions will continue to be answered. I do hope you are having a laugh - no emoticons so we don't know. They are not the best, and you can still get misunderstood....but they help!


Now, anyone who knows me knows how much it takes to get my gander up on here....particularly with new members that may not realise the etiquette on this here chat board is a bit different to others. Many have known each other for years.....and when you get along to meets, and get to know folks face to face...you become so much more than an a name on a screen.

Sorry to highjack the thread, but I'm going to attempt to change mine at the weekend,(1980, 2.0ltr T25 Aircooled) I've got the correct cork gaskets.

I'm just after a bit of advice please, as I'm a novice when it comes to this, Is it just a case of unclipping the wire on each cover (not had a proper look, whether there are bolts as well) cleaning the two mating surfaces, putting the new gaskets in place and reclipping the cover back on ? it just sounds too simple to be that easy, Born worrier you see and don't want to start something I can't finish !!

Also, do I need to use gasket sealent or anything, or just put them on nude so to speak

Any advice welcome, or even a step by step guide... if its not too cheeky to ask

The gaskets you have are wrong and the ones Boxy suggests are correct. Dont use gasket sealer. Get the right gaskets!
