Help..........!!!
I now have 2 starter motor bushes and neither of them fit , too small.
The starter motor is a vw one as iv looked up the part.
Where can i get the correct size bush?

JUST FOUND OUT I HAVE A 1700 DIESEL MOTOR IN MY VAN NOT THE 1600!!!!!!

My starter is a Bosch 0 001 110 009. Its the bush that fits into the bell housing that i need. The spindle on the starter is 14mm wide.

I wasn't aware that there was more than one type - just recalled seeing this at Brickwerks when perusing the other day. I'll have to let someone with more knowledge of this jump in I'm afraid..

Where are you trying to fit the bush? Is it too small to fit the pinion shaft or too small to fit into the casing, or both?

That's the correct starter motor for a KY engine according to the list on Brickyard - here What engine is it that you have? If you have that starter you must have a diesel. If you have that starter the bush is in the nose of the starter already.

I have a diesel 1600 motor. The bush is missing from the nose of the starter and im having problems getting a replacement.

The KY engine is a 1700.
Find your local starter motor refurbisher - they will be able to source one for you. You won't find one off the shelf as they aren't a normal service item. There isn't a bush in the bell housing.
What happened to the original?

Yes iv just found it i have a 1700 motor not a 1600 gerrrrr.
Its a nightmare trying to find a starter motor bush as its an odd size.
I dont know where the old one went to, drifting around in the engine somewhere no doubt.

Does your starter look like this?

If it does the bush is inside the silver supporting frame section on the left. The only way for the bush to get lost would be if the motor was completely dis-assembled.

The starter on my van, 2 ltr Aircooled, doesn't have the supporting frame around the end of the shaft so it uses a bush and the engine casing to support the shaft. Like this one:-

You're not trying to get a bush to fit the outside end of the shaft on the supporting frame type of starter are you?
