Chugging diesel

Probably not the correct terminology, however my 1.6 n/a diesel is as rough as a badgers on startup, chugging being a good explanation. Give it a few revs and it settles ok and when warm it runs and starts fine fine. Any ideas where to start checking would be much apreciated.
Many thanks
Paul

Try the glow plug fuse first, but it sounds like you have one or two glowplugs out.

Not that difficult to change using the right tools, look it up in Wiki.

Paul, is your starter motor spinning round at the same speed when cold as it is when the engine is warmed up? The reason I say this is on my Aaz it always had some trouble on cold morings untill I reved it abit and it would be abit smokey then settle down after a few seconds. The starter had gone abit lazy and I didn't even realise untill I changed it just how lame it was. It turns over really quick now and starts with some speed behind it without any trouble. Just worth keeping in mind if it's not the glow plugs.

Yep, same speed Jed, I do think its probably the plugs, when it starts cold, as well as being rough it belows out a fair bit of smoke (white)which i should imagine is unburnt fuel, its ok after a good rev though, no smoke, and runs as normal.
Thanks mate
