White/crystal rear lenses MOT FAIL

Well it did and it didn't...I will explain.

The tester had actually failed the van on white light reflecting from the rear...quote! 'yeah mate, that catches everybody out'
I have the 'white lenses' or whatever you call them and sure enough, the small area of reflector appears to bounce back white light despite there being red plastic underneath. Quote 'I'm suprised you haven't already been pulled in by the Police with these'
What's anoying is they are EU stamped and approved yet I know he was right in what he was saying.....

Anyway, the kind man...after a chat..put a fail then pass notice on them to cover himself, quote 'so if this comes back to me I can say you took it away and came back with the original lenses fitted' and ' I must have refitted the aftermarket ones again' Kind man.

The tester suggested that if I wanted to keep them on to blank the reflectors....kind of defeats the object..me thinks.

So....if you have similar lenses fitted take note""""

I dunno about the T25 ones, but normally they're intended to be used with tinted bulbs.

If they ae "E" marked then they have achieved european type approval which is permitted in vehicle lighting regs so they should not fail an MOT.
The problem with this type of lenses is they do not always include a red rear reflector which is a requirment.
There was probably a seperate one in the box with them which most people don't fit cos they look pants.

Mike.

Quote: 'AdrianC I dunno about the T25 ones, but normally they're intended to be used with tinted bulbs' cheers friend but reflected light has nothing to do with the bulbs fitted in the lamp units, all the lights correctly illuminate red/orange/white (brake/side and fog/indicators/reverse)

As for the lamp units..yes E stamped..
I've never seen these with a stick on reflector but that is definately a solution (just for the MOT then off again afterwards)

Martin , if you park a bit behind your van at night and you light up the rear with your headlamps, then what do you see?

indicators should be orange imho so you can see them for what they are, I personally find orange bulbs in clear lenses in combined headlight units very very difficult to spot, (I guess that's why we now have repeaters on the front wings and/or on the wing mirrors)
I know most peeps don't bother indicating these days but if all vehicles had lights spaced apart like ours and used them it would make it a lot easier when approaching junctions, roundabouts etc..allowing one to anticipate and carry momentum when possible and reduce fuel costs and make progress

Clear ones look 'wank' & 'Fugly' .....cheers for that!
Good job I like them then.....
When I bought them I considered the Dark Red of my Westie and the Black & Silver California Decals and decided the white lenses best suited the colour scheme.
Strangely, I still think I made the right choice....although I do admit to going 'against the trend' but then that never stopped me in the past. As a COMPLETE LOOK, it must work because the van as you know has won best in show on it's last three outings.
I've always done my own thing, never one to follow like sheep.

Thats not my point....I am talking about the look of the van not it's legality.

Calling my vans looks is like telling me I have an ugly child....it's simply not cricket old boy!

Thanks for that warning Martin, I've just bought some smoked ones for mine. There is 2 red reflecters in the box which I also think will look pants, but know they are a legal requirement.

I think your clear lenses look good, suits your bus.

Does the reverse light not reflect white light at the rear?
