The temp light on the van (89 Westy - 1.6 JX) is playing up. I start her up and off the light goes. After about 30 secs (or less) the light starts flashing again. Temp gauge goes to the centre but not above. If I then re start the light does not come back on. I'm assuming I have a prob with the thermostat or the sensor (is there more than the one in the header?). Any advice?

The one in the header is not a tem. sensor it's a low level sensor, on a DG/DJ there's one on the thermostat housing that does the temperature itself no-doubt there'll be similar one on a d****l.

Possibly, especially if nothing else unpleasant is occuring. The senders are available from Brickwerks.

Just had a closer look. The header tank (Dalek cap) was on the empty side but the expansion (behind the No Plate) was full (hope I've got that round the right way)? Bit weird that as I thought it would be the other way around.

Therein lies your problem. Might be worth checking the Dalek cap is not allowing coolant to flow into the plastic tank situated directly behind the number plate lamp when you are parked on a slight incline. I would also bleed the cooling system as a precaution.....

It sounds like your Dalek might not be allowing the coolant to flow back into the header tank once it's cooled down again - hence a full expansion tank. Then light flashes to warn of low coolant. My 1st thing to try would be a new Dalek cap from Brickwerks and then bleed it once you know you have pressure and working valves.

Will do - back from Goa and things go wrong. Ho hum off to Brickwerks!

I may be able to help with that, as I had similar problem couple of years back.
Ended up changing sensors etc, but the culprit was relay inside the fuse box.
I dunno which one, but somebody more electrically literate may be able to determine that.
Solved problem, and never had such one again.

Anyone know the said relay?

Relay 43 is the low coolant warning module - not quite a relay but looks like one - probably haven't described it correctly but it is part of the overall picture and located on your fuseoard under the dash.
