I hope this is in the correct section, sorry if it isn't.
Is there, or what is the differences between hard wiring and using a 12volt socket, please? I understand hard wiring is more hidden, I was wanting to find out if both methods basically do the same job? Or how do they differ? Many thanks. Sorry if that's a stupid question.

'Hard' wiring usually refers to wiring that is permanently fixed. So in the case of houses, factories etc it's the wiring that is fixed to or concealed within the building fabric. This is as opposed to wiring that is attached to equipment connected to it such as extension leads, TV's, kettles and the like that once unplugged can be moved to other locations.

In the case of a 12v socket installed permanently in a campers furniture, the socket and the wiring to it would be considered 'hard' - anything plugged into the socket wouldn't be, and is 'temporary' in so far as you can move it if the fancy takes you. You wouldn't want all your wiring to be trailing across floors etc
