I have a problem with my brake calipers. I would like to try and repair the existing calipers rather than buy new or exchange ones.
Does anyone know how to expell a single piston from its bore if the other one has been removed.
I got my local garage to try and remove it but they failed to.
The flexible hoses are also bonded to the ridged pipes. No amount of mole grip and spanner will make the two part. The nut just burrs.
I am an amateur mechanic but a thorough (is that spelt right - I meant methodical) and want to do the best for my van.

Try opening the bleed nipple when the caliper is off and use an airline on the nipple to force the piston out or if they are still attached try removing the pads and pumping the brake pedal to force the pistons out as for the brake lines they are probably that old that they have fused together with rust so you may well have to replace them

If you have split the caliper, then you may have to grip the top of the piston in a vice.. not very good baut if you are carefull it works..
If not, get a couple of "better" calipers from one of the club breakers!!
Oh.. the small seals in the caliper halfs.. Are not available and have to be re used.. so dont loose them..

As for the hose.. trace the metal pipe back tot he connector, cut it off close and use a 6 wall drive socket to remove.. buy a (T2 bay window) complete pipe kit from GSF etc (14 quid) and use the most suitable length from that to replace.. lots are the same..

I've just done my calipers. I did them one at a time. It just meant I had to do a bit of bleeding in between calipers but I was able to get the pistons out. Either that I would suggest flexible hose clamp.
