Gear lever alignment

Somewhere along the lines, somebody's done something a bit funny to the gear lever in our new Westy. Selecting second puts your knuckles at great risk of meeting the heater controls, whilst fourth and the stereo - well, I had to turn the gearknob (a horrible leather "ergonomic" thing) 180deg...
Is the lever adjustable, or am I going to have to either get curvaciously bendy with it or just replace it?

Sounds like it's bent to me

If it's got bent over time, then it's been done _very_ neatly indeed, and below floor level...

On the left - Neutral.
On the right - 4th. With the gearlever round 180deg (as it "feels" like it should be), finding 4th is a bit tricky, assuming you place any value on your knuckles.

4 speed or 5 speed ?
basically your linkage is too long, if you find the uj in the middle of the linkage under the van you will probably see that the clamped joint is showing some clean metal on the splined bit, slacken the joint and very judiciously tap the end of the linkage at the gearbox to shorten the whole thing a smidge and retighten the bolt, good to have someone in the cab holding the funny red thing whilst you do it

It seems to have worked! Thanks for that, Aidan. You have saved a lot of blood being shed from my knuckles.
Now just to get a slightly less revolting gearknob...
