We've a T25 Westy LHD - It's a bit stressful on the overtaking lark...

Problem 1 - there's a cabinet mounted from the van's ceiling above the engine-bay, so the internal rear view mirror can't get a good look at the traffic behind. Ideally I'd like a rear view mirror that mounts about 4 to 6 inches lower than the standard one.

Problem 2 - the right hand wing mirror isn't very big or wide angle, so the blind spot is a bit on the HUGE side.

Anyone know of a neat fix for either problem?

The stalk on the rearview mirror is already quite long so I doubt you'll find something much better. You used to be able to get ones that sucker on to the glass though and I know you can get dodgy looking add me on bits for it from some places. Perhaps Motorist Discount or other small car accessory shops?

You can also get stick on extender bits for wing mirrors but as they are for cars they may look a bit puny if you have the standard van mirrors on. The usual big mirror conversion is syncro/LT big mirrors. If you see an LT of the correct vintage in a scrap yard with it's mirrors on get in there and get them before the rest of this place sees them or they'll be gone. There is a slight adaptation to the door to make them fit but I believe it isn't major.

I'll be fitting some LT soon and I'll add it to the wiki. the synco mirrors from VW are £60 each for arms brackets mirrors etc. and are shown on the left in the above picture.

Yes those syncro mirrors look the part - I assume they give you the "white van man" wide angle view of the road (that white van men seldom use).

All I have to do now is get a fix to interior mirror now - anyone know how it's attached to the ceiling? Glue or bolts?

BTW - overtaking - yes it's 1.6TD - well up to the job, touch wood.

the synco mirrors from VW are £60 each for arms brackets mirrors etc.

i think they were more like £160 inc vat if i remember right but i cant be sure.they stick out much further than the lts and sit verticel rather than at a tilt like the lts.you can see much more and they dont wobble at all.i dont bother with the rear view mirror now for driveing,only to admire my stunning good looks in

£60 times two plus VAT is £141 plus delivery is probably about £160 or there abouts though!!

First thing is have you got flat glass or convex...........a good start is use convex glass, if thats not enough then the Syncro "D" arm route is the best and they look better.

white van man versions are available, no mirror glass just insert a picture of clear road and drive accordingly. Cant help you with rear view never heard of it being a problem.

Are you sure thats got mirror glass in it too?

As they say... get the LT/Syncro ones - and you won't look back...(couldn't resist that one).

I've got them on my LHD Joker and have also added a little fish eye mirror in the bottom corner to cover the blind spot. Jobs a goodun.

I have a small stick on wide angle on both my LHD's mirrors and one of those plastic wide angle things you put in the back window, works fine for me.

I changed my old shabby looking standard mirrors for convex ones from JK (cost around 20-30 quid each i think). Made a significant difference, though as with all mirrors to see right in the blind spots you have to lean forwards a bit.

Do you actually get to overtake in your Westy?
That must be an exhilarating experience. It must have a large engine (very envious!) I have a LHD 1.6 straight diesel and everything on the road apart from bicycles and old tractors can't wait to overtake me!
