Hi, i wanted to lower my van by changing the springs, heard it was easy so wanted to do it myself. the first rear corner went fine took off lower bolt of the shock and swaped the spring no problem. went to do the other side and didnt even get the wheel off! the last wheelnut i manged to round off! anything i tried to do just didnt work so if anyone has got any tips on how to get it off would b very helpful. plus went to do the front and cant get the bolt off the wishbone. so any tips on very hard bolt to undo aswell. thanks

Something like these should get the wheelnut off.http://www.toolbank.com/p/IRW10504635 Or you could try knocking a smaller size socket onto it first..

Get your self a tin of plusgas.(Not wd40) And give it a good soaking over a couple of days. Then try removing it again.

Popular misconception... WD40 is a water dispersant (WD) and lasts 40 days. PlusGas is a penetrating fluid, for this type of application. Good luck with the bolts, nothing more frustrating than this type of thing holding you up

get a nice big breaker bar as well , that bottom arm bolt can be very tight !

I'd cut the heads off, knock them out and replace with these ... http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/shop?page=s ... gory_id=86 and http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/shop?page=s ... gory_id=86

But then again I wouldn't be lowering my van

Always keep a tin of this or Halfords 'Shock n Unlock' to hand!

I second the necessity of a good breaker bar (or two). The wheel nut bars are flimsy as "feck", especially the telescopic ones! A good motor parts shop will have some beasts that will do the job!

good luck whitewonder

i found that the most useful tool was a hammer with the breaker bar coming a close second. not much refinement to this job.

be careful in levering out the front springs - i bought some spring compressors from screwfix for £15 and even with them it was a real struggle to get them out from their seating.

worth all the strife though - now the van actually corners instead of behaving like a reluctant horse being shown how to turn.

i found both my front springs broken when i changed mine , so i thought i would use a disk cutter to cut the spring out ! ,lets just say i did not do that on the 2nd springs
