Is my alternator right?

Hi,
My 1988 1.6TD JX currently has the following alternator on it:

Bosch 1 197 311 021
EL 14 V. 4C
062

This doesn't seem to match what comes up as the right one when looking for a new one online.

I think the 062 means 62A ???

I was just looking to get a spare as going to do some mileage this year and wanted to have on just in case, but now am thinking the ne on her currently isn't correct.

Could this also be the reason why that on starting the red battery light flickers on/off until moving?

Any ideas?

I'm sure that number is just for the regulator

Did you get the numbers off a sticker on the alt?

Hi Cruz,

thanks for getting back to me!

Doh... Sounds like I have made a booboo. That part number was on a black plastic 'block' which I thought was part of the alternator...

I'll go and have another look

Any help?

Why don't you just get the one you have serviced by an auto electrician?

Hi Cruz,

Thanks again matey, that's the one!

I will ring around tomorrow and see now much for servicing existing one, was just thinking it might be wise o carry a spare on longer trips.

Thanks again!

How many times has an alternator let you down in the past to warrant such fear?
