Going to remove windows to get at rust and ready for re spray. Is it neccessary to replace rubbers with new?

Thanks

I would. They've been in there since 1985 and will have 'set' to the exact shape of the window edges. Rubber that old will have lost most of it's ability to mould into a new setting. New rubbers would be better in my opinion.

My window rubbers had gone rock solid but only on one side of the van; probably as a result of being parked in exactly the same position for years and having the sun burn the cr@p out of them. If you do elect to re-use the old ones I'd whack a good healthy dollop of that windscreen sealent in there too.

10 heathy dollops = 1 shed load
10 standard dollops = 1/2 a shed load
