A question for Aidan really, but if you know. . .
Hi mate, that whining has got a little louder,
But I have noticed that when I couple-up the 4wd
The noise is drastically reduced to the point that you cannot
really hear it unless it’s put under heavy pressure
(being supported by the coupling maybe).
As soon as I de-couple, its back.
The question is, does that confirm our suspicions of rear bearing?
And if so, do the collapse?
The reason for asking, is the Salisbury meet
Sounds great and I might now be able to make it.
I know "not to try this at home"but I could do with your view on it.

When my box was knackered it also made a lot less noise in 4wd. The main problem with mine was the big pinion bearing had failed.

Mine had a dead gearbox nose bearing (propshaft) that was probably the source of most of it's noise, despite the chipped cw/p and sloppy nearside diff flange. It really howled!
Maybe start there as it's accessible but if the deco' was recent, did it get a new nose bearing then?

what did the oil change show ?

Oh, still haven’t had a chance to get it in the garage and drop the oil
Will do it next week wed/thurs hopefully and post.
As Its working daily, I’ve been hoping for that opportunity.

The lomnger you leave it the worse its gonna get and the more likely its gonna take something else with it....




Oh and Its 2 "A" in Aidan....

Will try to get it off the road and into the recovery position
(Up on stands and gearbox out) before something drastic happens.
It’s difficult when it’s your work tool; don't suppose those bulk bags help matters.
