They wrap around and you can use a bungee around the rear to join together. Yes, has to removed before dropping the top.

You can't drop the roof with it on, the thermal stuff is too thick to fold down with the roof canvas.
They are a great bit of kit though. We had one for our Devon roof and it was fab, as well as obvious heat retaining benefits, it also kept light out and reduced condensation. I believe Brickwerks do a westie one?

When we had our Westy pop top, we made one out of that silver coated bubble wrap stuff. We covered the edges in the special silver tape and put some metal eyelets at either side of the rear to attach the bungy to, it cost about £30. We had to do the measuring and cutting on a car park, that got some strange looks.

No where near. The quality of the ones you can buy are very good. I think the best thing is they keep the canvas dry which in turn keeps the van dry. They are a bit of a pain to put on though. At this time of year we keep the roof down. As there is just me, my wife and son this works well. Max sleeps in the cab bunk. We have to be a little more organised but stay toasty warm with the ebber not having to do too much work.
My best advice would to be a high top. I'm slowly going off poptops. Okay poptops look better but the practical benefits of a high top are starting to out way looking cool. Maybe I'm just getting old!! (31 next month)

We sold our westy pop top and bought a high top in we think in 2006, best thing we did. I was 31 that year, is it old? heck that was 5 years ago.

I have thermal cover for the westy pop top but after using it a good few times the top front plastic canvas bit folds over and lets the wind and rain in. Fixed this by fitting press studs to it the same as the original westfalia ones. The one i have is a paucer one the same as brickwerks sell, so i was told by the maker. It dosent cover the small bit at the back of the roof so i made a bit for this from the foil insulation from b&q. Now its snug but if i was to pick between a high top or pop top westie now it would be a high top.

We have a FULL wrap (goes around the back as well!)
When we arive on camp we have it down to a fine art: Michelle partially lifts the PopTop, I clip the wrap onto three installed press studs (top edge of the roof) by standing on the wheel arch each side.....then inside and lock......pull the tails around past the hinges then velcro at the rear....about 2 minutes DONE! No sag at the front (as it hangs from the press studs)
Light tight/water tight and reasonably warm both winter and summer (keeps things cool in the summer)
Ours was from Gunzl at Vanfest 2 years ago £100 (more than that now)
