You have early doors
the slider is not interchangable without some modification
the tail gate has a different lock type but fits

I'd like a second opinon on the tail gate

The early tailgate lock is small and sticks out from the door, (it looks more button like). The late lock is bigger and sits more flush with door. I understand you can make a late lock fit an early door by drilling the whole bigger, but then the bare metal would need treating.

Also late tail gates have a VW badge and recess gap on them, early ones don't. If a late lock was on an early door, some people would say it's incorrect, would that bother you?

Early sliding door handles are longer and I believe thinner than late ones. Also late sliding doors have a catch at either end of the door, I don't know what difference that makes to the handle.

You def have early slider and t'gate. I'd repair the slider if i were you, inner and outer skin lower are available. Early slider in good nick = £300+
Any tailgate will fit

Yours is just being awkward. What year did they change stuff like this and the intermitent wipers?
Our camper is a late body with an early interior, I guess they had some left.

Regarding the sliding door, the handle recess is bigger on early doors, to accomodate the longer handle.

Erm, good luck with it.

Is that 2 different locks for the early or late style? I am now confused.

does anyone know what modifications are required to a late slider to make it fit it to an older van?
