Hi,Ive just bought a t25 1.9 89,it runs great but the temp gauge sits higher(when fully hot) than on other t25s ive owned, when i put the heaters on full to get rid of some of the heat the gauge sits half way,any idea what will be causing this?Is it a problem or am i just been over cautious?

The gauge not reading "correctly" is due to one thing, really.
That is, coolant flow around your engine.

I would do the basics first and see if Ian is correct, test the thermostat as per the haynes manual

No not really... VW say that "normal" is any where between the marks on your gauge, but I like it to sit in the middle, as that's where most of them sit.

If the stat doesn't start to open before the water boils change it, they're not expensive... Be nicer still if you had a thermometer.

Here's a little bit of information for you......Baxters trusted remedies

better put the kettle on...

when i first got my van, it had the wrong temp sender in (put in by a french mechanic when the PO was on holiday), making the gauge hover at about 80%, higher in traffic. didnt enjoy that much.. no overheating symptoms, just a high gauge. proper sender in, gauge fixed. phew!

Think I was worrying for nothing but testing the thermostat as others more knowledgable suggest seems like a smart idea.

not wanting to worry you too much but on my old diseasel that was a sure sign of air locks in the water system - bleed out the radiator if the other suggestions prove not to sort it
