Heater Valve (above spare wheel)

Hi All,
As part of my tidying up of the cooling system, I have drained the coolant and now dropped the rad for inspection etc.
When I got the van, the heater was permanently 'on' in the cab - removal of the dash revealed the bowden cable end had come out of the lever and was slightly kinked. I sorted this out and the valve now operates well from the lever. However, with the rad out, you get a good clear view of the valve itself. Whilst the condition seems to ok.. I can blow through it when in the 'closed' position, albeit with some resitance. This implies to me that it isn't 100% - would you agree? The other thing is, I was surprised that the valve just 'dangles' and has no hard fixing - is this how they all are? It is fairly rigid and works, but I am tempted to fab a bracket to hold it firm.. any thoughts?
I have some pictures that I'll put up as it'll help anyone in future know what it looks like.
Cheers,
Stu
