ok i`ve heard people fit 2wd h/d springs to the front of a syncro for a lift.

what happens if you fit.

1. std 2wd front springs. to front.
2. -30, -50 ect front springs. to front.
3. std 2wd rear springs. to rear.

you get the idea i hope.

std 2wd are longer but are softer... so you get a bit of a lift and a more compliant ride
STD rears will fall out as a lot shorter and not as stiff either...

-30/-50.. dunno.. but I guess.. unless they have a stiffer rate, you'll prob just end up with softer std or lower height...

i`m pressuming that the lowered springs have an uprated spring rate. be very dissapointed if they didn`t. so i guess std 2wd springs will be a waste of time on a syncro. what i`m trying to attain is if you wanted to run a lowered syncro " and i dont mean stupid low just street / sensible low " would any of the 2wd lowered springs fit the bill. baxters coil overs could tune the height at the front and spacers at the rear may sort the too low issue that -50`s for example would give.

my only concern would be the shocks bottoming out. baxters shocks are longer so not really ideal for a lowered syncro. rear shock mountings could be adjusted to stop bottoming out on stantard shocks but i`m not sure what the lowest the fronts could cope with would be.

I had uprated 2WD fronts on mine but it was way too stiff ....

Are Baxters not doing adjustable coilovers now? It's what I'll be going for on the AWD quattrobus and appears to be the only solution for a low (tarmac) ride height combined with the syncro front drivetrain.
Unless anyone knows different?

I can have them made shorter it required.

I have baxters coilovers on the 16 already and they are very good. Only problem running them lowered will be the platform will run very close to the front drive shaft and the fact that they are longer to start with so bottoming out may be an issue. Going lower normally dictates you also go stiffer. Guessing syncro springs are already stiffer than 2wd to start with but by howmuch???
On the front I think a -50 or poss even a -70 spring would allow you to run a lower height without the risk of touching the driveshaft. I'm guessing running a -70 spring on the rear would result in a far too low height. Would a spacer 30mm / 60mm???? set the rears to a balanced height and what wheel centre to arch height would peeps think right for this set up.
So what would be ideal.????????

Simon would you have access to spring rates for the avo range and standard syncro / 2wd springs.

So you want a "road performing" syncro??
2wd rear shocks and springs.. either std or the hd ones..
Fronts.. well that might be an experiment, but the biggest problem would be shorter stroke on the shock with any shorter spring to prevent it disslocating..

No but you are going to tell us aren't you!

will do eventually. i`m probally going to get -50`s from baxter for the 2wd. whether i`ll be able to resist fitting them to the syncro first is another thing.

I dont have spring rates.
AVO dont have spring rates.
AVO dont make their springs.
You could only get a rate from the front springs as they are made from single dia wire.
By their design the rear spring rate rises with load.
Syncro front springs lower a 2wd about 40mm.
Avo 2wd springs were based on -30mm multivan springs.
Avo say their springs are updated by 30%.

I'm not 100% but I have a feeling we have some AVO -50mm springs that are too low, suspect they are -70's, I think there is a s set of -50mm rears with them.
I'll have a look when I'm back, dunno what we did with them, can't remember if we sent them back to AVO or not.

Oh, not been at work and just moved house, only just got internet back, well, borrowed a dongle from Michael to tide me over hence abrupt reply above, was using my phone, good though it is, long winded replies are a pain in the ring with the predictive text changing everything!
AVO send their spring work out to another company, they may have details of rating but I doubt that we could get that info.

As an aside, the Germans at Suplex have sussed out what has gone wrong, so hopefully a resolution to the issue from the tail end of last year.
