We're planing to visit Germany in the summer. We love the country but haven't been for a while. I've been reading about the low emissions zones in cities and am wondering if driving an old vehicle with no sticker is likely to cause any issues. Does anyone know?

Driving in a Dummweltzone without a sticker is not a problem, parking in the same zone can be an issue.

The Police have stated that they are not going to check for the stickers as they have better things to do.
The parking warden type people will slap a ticket on you - it's a 40 euro and a point if you have a German license.

I don't know about the points situation but they will chase you for Das Geld!

Most cities are allowing only vehicles with a green sticket (Grüne Plakette).
Some cities are allowing both red and yellow stickered vehicles but these cities are all going green in the next years.

A diesel T3 does not reach the red status let alone the green status.
A petrol with cat does reach the green levels and can be awarded a sticker.

Or you can use the Park n Ride set up that all cities have.

Or you can drive around without stopping.

I had to pay 120 euro for an exemption certificate.

when i bought my van it had a green plakettte already on it as it had a cat fitted . i then fitted a nice new shiney stainless exhaust from simon and co. from brickwerks and left my sticker on the window so now i dont need to worry about the ordnungsamt giving me a ticket andd points ,or replacing a very expensive power sapping catalytic converter... simples.

Pick the right camp site and they'll give you a free train pass! We stayed in Staufen im Breisgau (which was beautiful) and got free train passes. 2009 we went to Basle on it and last year to Freibourg. Brilliant!

Do you think a 1980 westy joker on lpg would get one? also would i need one for a 67 split as off to bad camberg next june?

Don't know about the LPG Westy but the 67 "pooh" will be exempt as it's an Old Timer.

would a 1980 bus be exemt too? i thought anything over 25 years old was classed as an oldtimer over here so it should be exempt too.only going on what ive been told mind so not 100 per cent

Yes it would be exempt as it's over 30 year old. It would have to have a H plate though.

A good site for what?

A good site for forest camping. Ideally a small quiet site with easy access to the forest for walks. It has to have good loos and showers etc or my wife will veto it!! I can't get her to consider wild camping.

That's a bit of a quantum leap from the original subject.

You need to google it, there's loads of sites around that area.
All are probably up to the usual high German standard.
