Bad Camberg? Is that the one in Hessen near Frankfurt your talking about? Only asking because I live about 10 mins from the place and I didn't know they had a VW show there!

Have a read through this lot and send them a question (in English). - http://www.umwelt-plakette.de/int_engla ... 00f3e9a318
I think you may have found an area that has been overlooked. Old Timers are exempt but they have a registration number that ends with "H". As the UK does not have the same system you may be in a problem area.

Which city(ies) are you intending to visit?
Tell me and I'll write an email asking the question to the council.

Thanks Titus I did initially read through that, which made me ask the question. I think Hamburg and Berlin are the only places I will have the problem the rest will be Reimahg, Buchenwald, Nordhausen then back west to Porta Westfalica.

Thanks for that!

My excuse is we have only lived there for 3 and a half years so that will be why I never noticed! The last show was on just one month before we bought the house having had a look on the site. Think I will be going for a look this year.

Ive been to three bad cambergs now, 1999 2003 2007 and looking forward to the next one.
i stop in Biebrich in Wiesbaden, and it takes about half an hour to get to camberg.

for vintage buffers its great, and anyone who is anyone within the vintage scene is there.

I'll find the email addresses for the three cities mentioned and then write a general email on all three.

Got a Reply from German National Tourist Office

Dear Kev,

Vintage cars are exempt from the low emission badge but the vehicle
needs to be in good and safe condition and any major alterations to the
car are not permitted. The German Automobile Club (ADAC) recommends
obtaining a 'Historic Vehicle' pass from the FIVA:
http://www.fiva.org/EN/index2.html
and putting a copy of the registration papers which show the age of the
car being over 30 years visible when parking the car in the
environmental zones. (German vintage cars can be easily identified by
the number plate which is either a black H or is a red 07 number
plate.)

Excellent! That saves me trawling around for email addresses.
Notice that it states "...when parking the car..." that is because the coppers have said that they will not be carrying out any checks when vehicle is being driven (they have better things to do).

This whole thing with the police not checking when being driven is making me curious.

I may just go for a little jaunt through Frankfurt this time home to see if I get pulled.

I've been doing some googling - I'm getting mixed results. Some say that the police are checking some not.

I'll try and find the ADAC report.

It's a 40 yoyo fine and a punkt in Flensburgh if it all goes t1ts up.

just to throw in my silver thruppence worth, i swiss mate has been into several german "zones " this year with no ill effects to his wallet.

maybe a pink bay window is just too obviously an oldtimer.

as for the FIVA "passport" for over 30's, i dunno what they charge for one of them in the UK or germania but here in CHuffland it's over £200.

might seem excessive, but these are the people responsible for getting all the oldie exemptions onto the statutes, so worth supporting.

plans to introduce town zones like germany( but without the "oldtimer" exemptions) have just been abandoned here. the idea was that in bern only cars newer than 1987 ( with catalytic converter) would be allowed. and no motorbikes older than 2006............
