Hi all i drive a 2.1 dj auto, and its been running fine for a bit however when i was driving it the other day (24th december) the engine just cut out so i rolled to a stop, i managed to get it going again by rocking it and turning it over then drove back home. Now it wont start, it kicks in nearly (sometimes for a few seconds) then just dies. I was wondering if people think this could be a fuel filter problem or the fuel pump itself or is something simply frozen as its been pretty cold here in sunny Stoke-On-Trent Any ideas really appreciated (oh and i do run it low on petrol a bit, bloody petrol costs are a killer).

Sounds like fuel filter, (look it up) under tank.

Run too low on fuel and you pick up water and crud.

Don't let it get less that 1/4 full.

I fit a second filter between the pump and the carb, just so you can see the fuel from within the engine bay

Though the extra filter may make it easier for you to see , it will also put undue strain upon your fuel pump VW designed the pump for only one filter best stick to that .

when you turn ob the ignition you should hear the fuel pump shoot two bursts of fuel to prime the engine after this you switch the engine on to avod the red light flashing

blocked fuel filter is a real poss as the tanks tend to rust and block the filter
