injection 2.0l Aircooled?!

Thumbing though the shames (Haynes) book this morning for no apparent reason and there are several references to an Aircooled injection version.... is this true/has anyone got/had or seen one of these?
No reason why you couldn't do it I know, just I've not previously thought of it or heard anyone else talking about it....

I see a fair few Westy's throught the shop with injection, mainly Bay but some 25's, the set up is very similar to the 2.1 DJ set up, uses an ECU and AFM to meter the fuel.

Mine is an Aircooled, fuel injection, German spec westfalia. I actually just got my haynes manual for Christmas. Could have used it a year ago! It get OK mileage I guess. Cant see it being much better than a carburated one though.

Injection will always give a better fuel economy.

i disagree, a well set pair of dells will be better on fuel than an injected set up as the early system is very very basic

Why do you think car are injected? (excluding because of cats).....
....Its because they give better fuel economy.
also how long will your carbs stay "set up correctly" before they go out?

They had to do it for emissions in USA and in California especially, then eventually over into Europe.
The pierburg is about the last gasp in carbs giving good emissions I would think

modern cars yes, with
adaptive ecus give better economy
30 odd year old Aircooled injection is as basic as you can get with no scope for on the move adjustments( no lambda) hence the inefficiency of it which is why i say a well set up pair of carbs will be better as they allow precise tuning.
once set why would they fall out of tune between servicing intervals?

I had a 2ltr [cu?] for a year in Australia,it was realy poor on fuel [18mpg if driven at 50 mph!].
The injection system squirts fuel into the inlet manifold every other induction cycle!!.
All 4 injectors at the same time!.

Ah, the injection vs carb question!
A well sorted injeciton system will always beat carbs in an MPG "race", but not all injection systems were even designed with good MPG figures in mind. Thake my 5.7 litre V8 GMC Vandura (no, please, TAKE it!!!), it has a single point injection system which was desienged with emissions in mind. It does have an 02 sensor (before the cat), but a Holley 500 or equivilant would wipe the floor with the injeciton system all day long in both power and MPG. The injection system is just dire on the GMC, it just "chucks" fuel into it and overfuels quite badly giving a very rich mixture. Nice sooty exhaust, nice cloud of crud when you floor it (you know, on pay day, when you've also won the lottery, have a full tank and it's less than a mile to the next petrol station). If you are clever, you can get it to tickover in overdrive which will return 20mpg at 55mph but you drop to the very low teens when driving "normally" and into single figures when you are city driving or upsetting the Plastic Fantastic brigade with the loud pedal. All this anld only 200bhp from the factory from such a large engine, there is something just not right about that.
It's like stating which is better, front wheel drive or rear wheel drive, it all depends on the car, design, purpose etc etc. With modern stuff, obviously injection is the way to go, but with older injection designs it is much more subjecive.

nice to see 2 opinions forming over this - I am aware that nearly all early injection systems on all cars are tosh and they were mainly for emissions rather than mpg's/power increases I just hadn't noticed they put any on aircold's.... I suppose at least one major plus is that you don't have to faff about balancing them up as there are sensors to take care things!
