Depends on the file format and encoding but as a rough average a single track is normally between 1.5 & 4 meg. I guess your USB stick will be 2 or 4 gig not meg. I've got a 40 gig MP3 player with 3200 tracks on or 287 albums, so a 4 gig stick should hold over 300 tracks.

Like Boxy said depends on the format quality and length of the recording. But 423 tracks filled my 1gb flash drive. so you can work it down from there for a mb drive

At 'average' quality encoding, it roughly works out as 1 Meg per minute.

How big a flash drive you use will probably depend on how easy the view of your files is on your new stereo. Ours is a real pain to find the track I want, so I use small flash drives.

I just put it on random play, as i put them on there I'll like whatever comes out.

So 1GB will give you approximately 16 1/2 hours of music.

Hello,
Just to throw in 2 pence worth.
SD card will plug into anything and play with no problem up to about 2 gig.
Any bigger and it becomes SDHC which is not the same electronics.
Check in your user manual, in case there is a limit on the size of usb key it can take.
If the key is too big it will read poorly or not at all. (true life experience)
Cordialement,

Just to add, some (USB and SD slot) head units have a max number of files limit as well as a filesystem compatibility. Mine in the van does does so even though I have a 2Gb SD card I can't actually use it all even at 320kbs bitrate. This has the max number of files listed in the manual (also complains when reading the card if it is over that).
Cheers,
Paul
